The Challenge
MAD Security, a specialized cybersecurity firm focusing on CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification) compliance for Department of Defense contractors, faced significant visibility challenges in an increasingly competitive and technical niche.
The CMMC space is growing rapidly and became highly competitive in a short time frame as contractors race toward initial certification.
Key commercial intent keywords like “cmmc consulting” and “cmmc consultant” were ranking outside the top 25, resulting in minimal organic traffic.
Defense contractors seeking CMMC compliance need extensive education before conversion, requiring a comprehensive content strategy.

Notable achievement: “cmmc consulting”
As the chart shows, the most impressive turnaround in the campaign was the keyword “cmmc consulting”, a high-intent commercial keyword that jumped an extraordinary 47 positions. It first reached #1 in February 2025, about four months after it was first recorded at #48, and has held the top spot in 63 weekly checks since. Key Success Factors
Success in the CMMC space required thorough understanding of Department of Defense compliance requirements, contractor pain points, and the evolving regulatory landscape of CMMC 2.0. Zellus taught MAD Security how to leverage that knowledge into core ranking pages.
Rather than surface-level content, we collaborated on comprehensive resources that truly serve user intent, from detailed scoping guides to audit failure prevention strategies. 95% of the content came from the client; Zellus then connected it to Google’s algorithmic signals.
A strong technical foundation ensured that great content could be properly crawled, indexed, and ranked by search engines across both mobile and desktop. Continuous improvement and monitoring pushed further growth.
